INFORMS, the leading international association for operations research and analytics professionals, announced it has awarded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) its 2018 Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research, and Management Science for its use of operations research (O.R.) to create a revolutionary approach to meeting the rapidly growing need for the spectrum used for wireless communication in the United States and Canada.

INFORMS, the leading international association for operations research and analytics professionals, announced that BNSF Railway has been awarded the 2018 INFORMS Prize for their pioneering and enduring integration of operations research (O.R.) and analytics programs into their organization.

Smith Prize for an innovative curriculum, taught in the context of a true business environment, that prepares students to become effective practitioners.

INFORMS, the leading international association for professionals in operations research and analytics, has selected two finalists for the 2018 UPS George D. Smith Prize, which recognizes excellence in preparing students to become practitioners of operations research and analytics.

The 2018 finalists are:

Finalist contributions include innovations in broadcasting, healthcare, communication, inventory management, vehicle fleet management, and alternative energy industries.

INFORMS, the leading international association for professionals in operations research and analytics, has selected six finalists for the 47th annual Franz Edelman Award for Achievements in Operations Research and Management Science, the world’s most prestigious award for achievement in the practice of analytics and O.R. 

Nearly 100 unique factors have to be considered during the complicated task of assigning inmates to any of the Pennsylvania Department of Correction’s 25 facilities.  What once took seven employees nearly a week to accomplish can now be completed in less than 10 minutes at an expected savings of nearly $3 million, thanks to an algorithm created by a team of Lehigh University students and professors, and the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. In recognition of their unique new application of operations research (O.R.), Tamás Terlaky, Mohammad Shahabsafa, Chaitanya Gudapati, Anshul Sharma, Louis J. Plebani, and George R. Wilson, Lehigh University; and Kristofer B. Bucklen, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, were presented the Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in Operations Research Practice by INFORMS, the leading international association for analytics and operations research professionals.

INFORMS, the leading international association for operations research and analytics professionals, announced it has awarded Holiday Retirement its 2017 Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Operations Research and the Management Sciences for its use of operations research (O.R.) to improve the pricing model for its more than 300 senior living communities across the country.

Eight student teams from around the world have been selected as finalists in the inaugural INFORMS O.R. and Analytics Student Team Competition. INFORMS, the leading international association for professionals in operations research and analytics, introduced this new competition to highlight young talent and provide O.R. and analytics students the opportunity to solve the kinds of real-world workplace challenges they will face during their careers.
