CATONSVILLE, MD, February 24, 2015 – The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS®), the leading professional association for professionals in advanced analytics, today announced three finalists in the competition for the UPS George D. Smith Prize, an award that recognizes excellence in preparing students to become practitioners of analytics and operations research.
The finalists are:
- H. John Heinz III College, Carnegie Mellon University– School of Information Systems and Management, and School of Public Policy and Management
- The Lehigh University Enterprise System Center (ESC) and Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE)
- Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia - Center for Operations Excellence
The finalists were selected from a highly qualified and diverse international pool of applicants. These three programs, each unique in its own way, cover a broad spectrum of training analytics practitioners.
The prize winner will be determined by a judged competition and announced at a banquet taking place on Monday, April 13 in Huntington Beach, California at the 2015 INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics & Operations Research.
The UPS George D. Smith Prize is awarded to an academic department or program for effective and innovative preparation of students to be good practitioners of operations research, management science, or analytics. It is accompanied by a $10,000 cash award.
The UPS George D. Smith Prize, established in 2011, is named in memory of the late UPS Chief Executive Officer who was a patron of operations researchers at the leading Fortune 500 Corporation.
