BALTIMORE, MD, October 12, 2023 – Jonathan Owen of General Motors and Stephen C. Graves of MIT, have been awarded the 2023 George E. Kimball Medal for recognition of distinguished service to INFORMS and to the profession of operations research and the management sciences (OR/MS). Both recipients have been standout members of INFORMS, volunteering their time to their peers and the profession as a whole.
Jonathan Owen is director of the Advanced Analytics Center of Excellence and chief scientist for OR/MS and Analytics at General Motors. Owen has served on the INFORMS Board of Directors as Vice President of Practice Activities, represented GM on the INFORMS Roundtable for 14 years and served 7 years on its Board of Directors, including two terms as president. He also played a pivotal role in implementing the INFORMS Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) program.
Stephen C. Graves was the 2021 INFORMS President and served as the editor-in-chief of Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. He was also the functional area editor and editor of the Edelman Special Issues of INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics (formerly Interfaces). He also served as a member of the Edelman Award Committee. Professor Graves is the Abraham J. Siegel Professor of Management and Professor Post Tenure at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Both award recipients are INFORMS Fellows.
