The Newly Selected Leader of Georgia Tech’s H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering is Recognized for Contributions to the Welfare of Society
BALTIMORE, MD, November 18, 2024 – Pinar Keskinocak, a world-renowned professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and past president of INFORMS, has been awarded the 2024 INFORMS President’s Award and George E. Kimball Medal for her long, tireless and visionary contributions to the operations research and management science (OR/MS) profession. The President’s Award recognizes important contributions to the welfare of society by members of the profession at the local, national or global level. The George E. Kimball Medal is awarded for recognition of distinguished service to INFORMS and the OR/MS profession.
Keskinocak is the newly appointed Chair of the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. She will begin serving in January. Keskinocak is widely regarded as a leading expert on health and humanitarian systems with applications in disease prevention and control as well as natural disaster or health emergency preparedness and response. She is also co-founder and director of the Center for Health and Humanitarian Systems. Her expert insights and analyses are regularly sought by federal, state and local government officials and the media.
Beyond her service as the 2020 INFORMS President, Keskinocak has spearheaded many other initiatives that have created lasting impact for INFORMS, including co-founding the Public Sector Operations Research Section and Junior Faculty Interest Group. She championed the establishment of INFORMS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Ambassadors program, creating a platform for members to lead and participate in crucial DEI initiatives. Her leadership has also extended to the Health Applications Society and Forum for Women in OR/MS (WORMS), reflecting her commitment to fostering inclusive and collaborative opportunities throughout the INFORMS community.
